10 Rules for Effortless, Everyday Style

In this series, I share some simple tips for leveling up your daily looks.

This week I popped into my local Madewell, and after not loving their winter items, I was so pleasantly surprised by how many things I loved this time around! The Texture & Thread line especially stood out to me, and I tried on several of the tops. I also fell in love with a jacket that I think I need to make mine ASAP. One quick note, since I know you’ll ask…the earrings I’m wearing are the Julia Earrings in Geometric Mix, and this is the lipstick.

Top / Jeans / Mules (TTS or size up 1/2 size)

I couldn’t resist grabbing a top in my favorite golden yellow hue. This has an adjustable knot and I love the fit and the texture of the fabric. These jeans are super soft and comfortable (wearing my usual Madewell skinny jean size), but I wasn’t a big fan of the “reinforced hem,” which is something they’ve been doing for a while.

Jacket / Top / Jeans (size down 2 sizes) / Mules (TTS or size up 1/2 size)

This jacket, you guys!! I am in love. It’s a beautiful butterscotch color and the shape is amazing. I’m wearing a size up here, but think if (when!) I buy it I’ll stick to my usual size. The jeans I have on are ones I already own, but they are Madewell and still available! I do recommend sizing down 2 sizes from your Madewell size.

Jacket / Top / Jeans (size down) / Mules (TTS or size up 1/2 size)

This top is an updated version of one I got last year, so I jumped at the chance to try it on for you since I’ve always gotten questions about mine. I adore the v-neck neckline this one has, and the material is nice and soft. I sized down in the one I’m wearing, but you absolutely could stay TTS, as it’s a flowy top. It would be great for anyone postpartum and/or nursing (and if that’s you, I’d definitely recommend staying TTS versus sizing down, mostly for more room in the chest area!). The jeans are the Roadtripper Jeans, and they’re so comfortable. They have a much lower price point ($75), and they are quite stretchy—be sure to size down one size from your Madewell size.

Top / Jeans (size down) / Mules (TTS or size up 1/2 size)

This is another top from the Texture & Thread line, and I really like the gathered waist—it works perfectly with a high rise jean. I love the ivory color, but it also comes in black and berry.

Top (size down or TTS) / Jeans (size down) / Mules (TTS or size up 1/2 size)

These balloon sleeves are so fun! This top has gorgeous texture, and the cropped fit is great with a high rise jean. I’m wearing a size down for a more shrunken look, but my usual size would absolutely work too.

Top / JeansMules (TTS or size up 1/2 size)

Very confusingly, this top comes in two very similar red colors! I believe the one I’m wearing is the “spiced cinnamon” and it just looks brighter here because of the lighting. That being said, I think the “ripe persimmon” color is gorgeous, too! I love the fit of the top and how flattering the wrap style is. The tie is adjustable, and the snap is functional. Great for nursing mamas—just be sure to size up if you need more room in the chest.

Top / JeansMules (TTS or size up 1/2 size)

Oh how I love a classic striped top! This one is the same as the red one above, but just a different colorway. I’m wearing my usual size, and I thiiiiink I may have a slight preference for this striped version to the red! Just so timeless.

Do you have your eye on anything from Madewell these days? Which look is your favorite?
