10 Rules for Effortless, Everyday Style

In this series, I share some simple tips for leveling up your daily looks.

This week’s style session is all about one of my personal wardrobe basics: a striped tee. While I do have several striped tops I could have styled for this, I chose one that’s currently in my capsule wardrobe, and one that honestly gets the most wear out of any of the others. It’s comfy, soft, versatile and timeless. Sizing-wise, I’m wearing the 0 and it’s nice and roomy, with a boxy fit.

In all of these looks, I’m wearing my Jaime Hoops in Brass Hexagon—they’re a new style I’m going to be releasing soon, with a 1.5″ diameter that’s right in between the size of the big 2″ Sydney Hoops and the tiny 1″ Emma Hoops. They’re super lightweight and a really approachable hoop size. Also, this is the lipstick I’m wearing—to get a more blotted/muted effect, I just applied it by dabbing it onto moisturized lips with my finger until I got even coverage that wasn’t too bold.

For today’s styling, I teamed up with Anna, Caitlin, Conni, and Cori. You can click on any of their names to go to their LIKEtoKNOW.it page and shop their looks! You can also see my whole style session on IGTV here.

Now let’s jump into the outfits…

Striped tee / Jacket / Jeans (also similar) / Mules (cheaper option here)

This first look is very much a “me” outfit—comfortable jeans, a jacket and mules. It was the first thing I thought of when I started putting together looks for this top, and I love how effortless, stylish and practical it is. I got this jacket after my recent Madewell Try-On and ended up ordering it in my usual size—the fit is perfect! I also got the mules after that same try-on session. I got my usual size, but a lot of people have said they liked going up 1/2 size.

If athleisure is what you’re into, this definitely fits the bill. It’s casual and comfortable thanks to super stretchy (and flattering) faux leather leggings, slip on sneakers and soft layers. I love how the sweater blazer adds structure but is still comfy. I recommend sizing up in the leggings and sizing down in the sweater blazer!

Never did I ever think I would own a pair of sock boots, but now I don’t know how I lived without them. They are a perfect complement to demi boot jeans like this, as well as wide leg jeans and even straight leg jeans. Mine are almost all sold out, so I linked a similar option for you.

I continue to dabble in wide leg pants, and love this look for spring. Layering with this style of pants can be tricky, because you don’t want to lose the waist. I like that the denim jacket is fitted and cropped, and also opted to tuck in my shirt to emphasize the high rise of the pants. These mules are perfect for pairing with this color pants—I got my usual size, but some recommend sizing up 1/2 size.

Spring is coming, and this is exactly how I’ll be easing into warmer temperatures and sunnier days. My jacket is finally restocked in most sizes—I got my usual size and it has a slightly oversized fit and it really is such a workhorse in my wardrobe. This olive color is a perfect year-round neutral. For the mule loafers, I’ve had them for over a year now and they’ve held up really well. I went up 1/2 size for them.

Striped tee / Leather jacket (and faux option) / Jeans (c/o) / Mules (cheaper option here)

For this last look, I added a little edge to my classic stripes with a leather jacket. This one is from Nordstrom and seriously SUCH good quality for the price. I went up a size, as it does run a bit small, and I also linked a great faux option for you if you aren’t into real leather. My Everlane jeans are ethically made and under $70 and I got the same size I usually get in skinny jeans at Madewell. (Also I answer TONS of questions about them here if you’re curious).
