10 Rules for Effortless, Everyday Style

In this series, I share some simple tips for leveling up your daily looks.

I think I might have found my capsule sweet spot! Historically I’d tried 10×10 experiments (10 pieces for 10 days), and seasonal experiments (40 or so pieces for an entire season), but both of them felt restrictive to me, and I was always trying to add things to the capsule through the course of the time period, which kind of defeated the whole purpose. But I knew I wanted to boost my wardrobe creativity and challenge myself to really wear my clothes, and that capsule wardrobes certainly help with that. So for the past month I’ve done a one-month capsule wardrobe (see it here)—and I loved it! I feel like it’s a manageable amount of time to stick with the same pieces, and then by the time the month is over I’m ready to mix it up again. For January, I only strayed from it for a trip to visit my parents because they had such different weather.

So, I’m back again with another one-month wardrobe, this time for the month of February. To help make it easy, I use the Cladwell app (free, iOS only) to not only select my items but also create new outfits, track them and share them. I’m going to do a more thorough post on Cladwell in the coming weeks now that I’ve been using it for the past year (spoiler alert: I love it), so stay tuned for that! In the meantime, you can see their feature on Good Morning America, and you miiiiiiight see a familiar face at the end around the 3 minute mark.

I was aiming for under 30 this time since it’s a short month, but I landed on 32 again and I’m just going with it—flexibility is the key to keeping it fun. Here’s what I’m rotating through this month (I’ll link everything below, or something similar if the item is no longer available):

You’ll notice a ton of overlap (especially with the jackets/cardigans), and just a few changes and updates based on what my wardrobe needs are for the month, as well as what pieces I was wanting to try to style in the coming weeks. Also, since the wide leg pants are very new to me, I may end up adding in another pair of shoes as I figure out how I like styling them.

TOPS + SWEATERS (13)

BOTTOMS (7)

SHOES (5)

Here are a few of my favorite outfit combinations I’ve worn already or plan to wear this month, using only the items above (feel free to pin them for reference!):

Just like last month, I’ll be sharing my outfits throughout the month over on Instagram and LiketoKnow.it.

Do you ever do capsule wardrobes? Are these types of capsule wardrobe guides helpful for you? What would you like me to include in future guides like this?

Love this post! I have been wanting to do a capsule, but like you, felt a little restricted to think for a whole season. Love the one month idea! I am hoping to get my closet assessed soon.
