10 Rules for Effortless, Everyday Style

In this series, I share some simple tips for leveling up your daily looks.

Back in February I styled my Hatch Collection tee for you guys, and today I’m styling another favorite one I’ve recently added to my collection. It’s oversized with a boxy fit (much like the Hatch one) with navy and white stripes and I sized down to the XS. In this post I’m sharing 5 ways to style this top for spring, though it’s definitely a year-round piece that I consider a wardrobe basic.

In all of these looks I’m wearing my Julia Earrings in Geometric Mix, which sold out last week! But don’t worry, they’ll be back again—stay tuned for when you can expect a restock. Also, I added a red lip for this look (it pairs so well with a classic striped tee), and the one I’m wearing is “Zip” by Glossier. You can get 10% off your first Glossier order here.

Tee / Jeans (c/o) / Mules / Belt bag

This is a really basic, classic look for spring. Stripes and dark skinnies are a timeless combination! These ones from Everlane have been my go-to for almost a year (yes, they actually dethroned my Madewell skinny jeans!!). The price point is great and this dark wash works all year. I have the ankle length (I’m 5’4″) and have the size 26 (I’m a 26/27 in denim, and a 25/26 at Madewell if that helps you with your sizing decisions). Also, these woven mules…they are the best! I wear them more than my Madewell Gemma mules to be honest. And they’re only $25.

File this under: outfit I will wear as soon as it’s warm enough. I love the kimono paired with the shorts for warmer spring days when you don’t need long pants but it’s not quite hot enough. This exact one is sold out (still available in a yellow color, though!), so I linked two similar options above for you.

This jacket and these jeans are a match made in heaven. Of course, a classic denim jacket like this one would work as well, but I love the silhouette of the one I used here. It has a bit more of a feminine feel to it, which sometimes is necessary in an outfit.

Another bag I’d pair with this outfit is my new Clare V backpack. Someone asked me on Instagram this week to compare it to the Madewell bag I styled with this outfit, so I may as well share briefly here for anyone else who is curious. In a nutshell: the Madewell bag holds way more, but the Clare V bag gives me an easy hands-free option. I basically use the two bags interchangeably! As far as the rest of the outfit goes, I sized down one size to the XS in the blazer, and the mules fit true to size. I have them in 3 colors and they are honestly so comfortable! The jeans have been restocked in a lot of sizes—mine are the ripped light medium wash and I ended up with the size 26 short. They are 100% cotton but stretch a bit to mold to your body as you wear them.

Here’s proof of two things: 1) navy blue and black can be paired together, and 2) you can wear black jeans in the spring. These amazing overalls are only available in a few sizes, but if they have your size I recommend them! They fit me true to size (wearing the small), but have basically no stretch so just know that going into your purchase. If you’re looking for an alternative, here’s an option for you to try—I haven’t personally tried these ones, so I can’t really speak much about fit or sizing, but they are a great price and come in short, regular and tall lengths!

Love your style! These “one item many ways” posts are so helpful! If you ever see that kimono cardigan come back will you let us know? I love the wider sleeves. Perfect for layering! I don’t like when my long sleeves get bunched up underneath a top fitted long sleeve layer. Yours is perfect! 🙂

Do you prefer the hatch tee or jcrew one? Why? I’m not pregnant (and won’t be) but Nordstrom is carrying the hatch one. It’s expensive but wonder if it’s worth buying a pregnancy tee. I like that it’s a true white (a lot of black and white shirts are cream and black) and the white and black are equal widths…. Thanks!

    • Natalie says:

Oh gosh, I don’t think I could choose!! Here’s what I like about each of them: The black and white on the Hatch tee is preferred for me over the navy and white, but the length and fit of the J.Crew one is a smidge better for my frame. That being said, the fabric on the Hatch one is softer and thinner. But then again, I love the cropped sleeve on the J.Crew top. Hope that helps!!
