10 Rules for Effortless, Everyday Style

In this series, I share some simple tips for leveling up your daily looks.

Last month I shared my packing and outfit plans for our 2-week vacation to the East Coast, and today I’m going to share 12 outfits that I actually wore while we were away. I only have 12 outfits to share because I definitely repeated outfits while I was there! Ultimately I feel like I packed well for the trip—the only thing I’d probably change would be leaving my rust dress and sneakers at home (I wore them once for a lunch out, but could’ve done without them. Forgot to take a photo, too!). I also never wore my striped cami tank. Instead, I would’ve just packed a few extra tops to mix and match things with.

All of the jewelry I’m wearing from my shop is linked and will be available on August 1st. In most of these outfits I’m also wearing my three Yearly Co. bangles—I have two Initial Bangles (with “J” and “L” on them for my kids’ initials) and a Twist Bangle—as well as my hammered gold ring Brian got me from J. Albrecht Designs in Colorado.

TRAVEL DAY // Not the best photo because it was taken before the sun came up and I never remembered to take an actual good photo of the outfit, but it was a perfect travel day outfit. The jumpsuit runs big so I sized down 2 sizes. This denim jacket was a great layer for tying around the waist and for keeping me warm on a chilly plane.

BOATING DAY // I wore this for our first real day of vacation when we went boating. Laid back, easy, and comfortable.

OUT FOR ICE CREAM // This casual outfit was perfect for a little outing to get ice cream with the kids.

EXPLORING NANTUCKET // Brian and I left the kids with my parents for a night to explore Nantucket just the two of us, and this jumpsuit was a no-brainer. It’s super comfortable and the stripes are very “on brand” for Nantucket’s nautical vibe. It runs a little bit big so I recommend sizing down (I’m wearing the 0).

EXPLORING NANTUCKET, DAY 2 // For our second day in Nantucket and our ride home on the ferry I opted for a blue and white look. Again, the stripes were perfect for the island vibe, and the denim jacket was a nice light layer. I recommend sizing up in the jacket for a fit like mine (I’m wearing the medium).

BOATING DAY // Shorts and a tee are perfect for boating, especially while chasing around my wild 1.5 year old daughter! I took my usual denim size (wearing the 27) in these shorts and love the fit. The tee ran a little bit big in the shoulders for me so I sized down to XS.

4TH OF JULY // This tee and shorts combo ended up being a great 4th of July outfit for a neighborhood parade with the kids. At night when we went to see fireworks, I changed into my striped jumpsuit again.

DINNER + CAR SHOW // Earlier in the week when we were getting ice cream we saw a sign for a car show and knew Jack would love it! I wore this for dinner and the car show because the weather was a bit cooler that night and I could get away with jeans in the evening.

VISITING WITH MY GRANDMA // My aunt drove my 96-year-old grandma out to visit us at the beach and see the kids and I knew we’d want to get some photos together so this is what I wore. This is one of my favorite tops of the summer! These jeans have been my favorite white skinnies for years and I’m wearing my usual Madewell size in them (26).

A DAY IN EDGARTOWN, MARTHA’S VINEYARD // Every year we take at least a little day trip over to Edgartown, Martha’s Vineyard for lunch and a little shopping. It was a warm day so I picked a lightweight striped shirtdress and accentuated my waistline with the belt bag. To avoid accidentally flashing anyone while bending over to pick up Lucy, I wore a pair of these shorts underneath.

Dress / Sandals / Bag (c/o) / Hoops

VISITING FRIENDS // I wish I had a better photo but this was all I got! On our first day in Nashville I met up with a dear friend for lunch and then finally met Ann Williams from Yearly Co. in person—this dress was a total dream for the thick, humid Nashville air. I felt put together and it didn’t show any sweat. Win-win!

Top (and similar) / Shorts / Mules / Similar sunglasses / Earrings (not available until September 5th)

TRAVEL DAY HOME // Yes, Lucy and I are accidentally twinning, haha. My top runs large—I sized down to XS and it still maintains its intended oversized fit. It’s a classic piece I will wear year-round!
