10 Rules for Effortless, Everyday Style

In this series, I share some simple tips for leveling up your daily looks.

As we’re getting glimpses of spring and some warmer weather ahead, I wanted to bust out my denim skirt to show you just how easily it can be incorporated into your daily wardrobe. The one I have is incredibly flattering and comfortable thanks to a dose of stretch in the denim, and the a-line shape—I sized down one size, as it runs a bit big. It should be noted that if you’re taller than me (I’m 5’4″) or are someone with especially long legs, this skirt might be a bit short for you. You’ve been warned.

In all of the outfits I share here in this post, I have on my Chloe Coin Necklacesilhouette locket (c/o Family Print Shop, 16″ length), and Emma Hoops in Brass Circle. I teamed up with JessConni, and Shawna for today’s styling, and you can click on any of their names to go to their LIKEtoKNOW.it page and shop their looks.

And lastly, a little tip for wearing shorter dresses and skirts—I always wear bike shorts under mine! Since I’m usually with my kids, it adds insurance against a potentially embarrassing situation if I needed to reach down and pick one of them up quickly, haha. Mine are only $8.

Admittedly I don’t own this top yet—I ordered it last week and it arrived in time for this styling session and I just loved the way it paired with the skirt and loafers! The color online is described as “rust,” but it’s definitely more of a deep dusty rose hue. I love it! I think it’s a keeper.

This is a great spring look for warmer days. Any button down would do—just unbutton the bottom button or two and tie in a knot at the waist. I do love this style shirt for warm weather, though—the fit is lovely. I included a jacket option for cooler days—the one linked is a new favorite of mine!

I couldn’t resist a classic stripe. The fit of this wrap top is perfect for pairing with the skirt, as it’s a bit cropped and the tie draws attention to the waist.

I think this is my favorite of all of the looks! If you don’t own a bodysuit yet, I highly recommend getting one—they pair perfectly with skirts! I also love to wear mine for date nights with skinny jeans and a blazer or jacket. Here I added my trusty sweater blazer on top (size down) and brought all of the colors together with my leopard loafers.

This last look is a great example of just swapping out your jeans for a denim skirt as the weather warms up. I did a little front tuck to keep the flattering shape of the skirt and elongate my legs. The sweater fits TTS and is one of my favorites—the color is a really dreamy deep golden yellow. For the mule loafers, I recommend going up 1/2 size.

Do you own a denim skirt yet? Which look was your favorite?
