10 Rules for Effortless, Everyday Style

In this series, I share some simple tips for leveling up your daily looks.

If you’re following me, you’re probably someone who appreciates down-to-earth, practical style and that’s exactly what I’m giving you today. While my husband and I have recently upped our game and committed to doing weekly date nights, that wasn’t always the case—and as a result, when date night (or a girls’ night out) came up, I often felt frazzled trying to figure out what to wear out of my everyday, mom-life wardrobe.

If you can relate to that, you’re going to appreciate today’s post! I’m showing you how I quickly take 4 daytime looks and make them nighttime ready. Whether you’re planning your Valentine’s Day date outfit or just need some good ideas for your next night out, I’ve got you covered!

For all of the nighttime looks, I’m wearing my Sydney Hoop Earrings in Metallic Gold Wood, as well as this moisturizing lipstick in “coral.”

I started with a really simple leggings-and-sweater look—something I think most of us wear during a normal day of motherhood or working from home. The key to this look, though, is the faux leather material of the leggings, as it definitely transitions best from day to night.

OUTFIT DETAILS: Sweater / Leggings (size up) / Sweater blazer (size down) / Boots (TTS) / Similar clutch

Jeans and a button-down shirt—definitely something I wear often! For daytime I’d probably have on a pair of loafers, and to take it to night I went with block heeled pumps, a statement sweater and my “taco purse” as I like to call it. It’s a bold and playful look that isn’t too over the top.

OUTFIT DETAILS: Top (c/o, size down) / Jeans (c/o, size down) / Cardigan (TTS) / Crossbody / Pumps (size down 1/2 size unless you have a wider foot)

This is the first of two all-black looks you’re going to see, because black is just so easy and so versatile. When in doubt, wear black! It is a great color for wintertime, and obviously transitions very easily to night. For the daytime look, I would probably have been wearing some leopard loafers to add personality to the all-black. And then for night, I once again busted out the block heel pumps (if you don’t have some of these, I highly recommend them!), a statement jacket and my trusty black clutch.

For this last look, OVERALLS! Yes, you absolutely can wear overalls out on a date or to girls’ night! I find black skinny overalls the easiest to style this way, but a darker denim wash could work, too. For daytime, I’d wear flats (probably leopard loafers) with the outfit. And for the night look, I thew on my leather jacket for some edge, heeled leopard ankle boots and a wine-colored crossbody. I really love how the color goes with leopard and just warms up the all-black look.

OUTFIT DETAILS: Eyelet top / Overalls (TTS, not much stretch) / Jacket (size up) / Boots (c/o) / Similar crossbody
