I know, I know…faux leather leggings? Isn’t it still summer?! Well, yes, it definitely is, but whether you like it or not, fall is around the corner and that means I’m going to start sharing some fall style to help you navigate transitioning your wardrobe from summer to fall. (I’m even working on a class on this topic with my friend Conni—you can join the email list for that right here).
In this post I’m sharing 6 ways to style my beloved faux leather Spanx leggings. They’re part of the Nordstrom sale (as usual), but honestly worth it for full price. I’ve worn mine SO MANY TIMES, and they’re high on my list for fall/winter capsule items, as well as the perfect pants for new mamas who want to look put together but also don’t have much energy or time to get ready.
They’re available in petite, regular and plus as part of the sale, and I recommend going up a size if you can. They also have a maternity version, but it’s full price. If you don’t want to wait for access to the sale and are ready to add a pair to your wardrobe, you can get them here.
This year is unique since we are spending more time at home than ever before, so my focus in these looks is laid-back, effortless and chic comfort. In every outfit, I’m wearing the Julia Earrings in Geometric Mix and the Sofia Cuff Bracelet (coming September 2020 to natalieborton.com)
OUTFIT 1: Olive utility jacket (c/o), stripe tee, white sneakers (like these or these), neutral bag (strap here)
Stripes and an olive jacket feel so classic to me, and I love how the faux leather adds a different texture and a more luxe vibe to a very casual look.
OUTFIT 2: Long black sweater (Natalie20 for 20% off), crossbody fanny bag (c/o, smaller option here), pointed black mules (c/o)
This is the way I envision wearing the leggings the most this fall. It’s simple, comfortable and classic, and I like the warmth and playfulness the bag adds to an otherwise simple and serious outfit. Both the sweater and the mules are true to size.
OUTFIT 3: White blazer, tan button up (and similar, use NATALIE10 for 10% off), pointed black mules (c/o), tote (similar)
The blazer and button up make this feel more elevated and professional, but I promise it’s no less comfortable than the other outfits. Button up shirts are so loose and comfy, and the blazer is made with linen and has a relaxed fit so it’s not too stuffy or structured.
OUTFIT 4: Oversized stripe shirt (c/o, use Natalie20 for 20% off), pointed black mules (c/o), tote (similar)
It really doesn’t get much more comfortable than an oversized shirt and leggings, does it? I have my usual size in the shirt and it feels fine, but I could’ve sized down for sure. I recommend staying true to size if you’re tall, though!
OUTFIT 5: Blush cardigan (similar), grey sweater (also similar and similar, and 20% off with Natalie20), pointed white loafers (similar), black and white crossbody (similar) with chain strap
I love mixing warm and cool tones for a modern color palette. As the weather cools down, layering a sweater with a cardigan is an easy way to add warmth without a bully coat.
OUTFIT 6: Oversized white button down (c/o, 20% off with Natalie20), cheetah mules (20% off with Natalie20), crossbody fanny bag (c/o, smaller option here)
I refer to this as my “Zoom Outfit” because it’s what I keep recommending when I get asked what to wear on Zoom calls that is both professional and comfortable. A white button-down is forever chic and classic, and the addition of a fun bag and patterned mules keeps it feeling fresh and modern.
Which is your favorite look?

Hi Natalie!
Thank you for all of your posts! If you can, will you lend your expertise? If you were to pick sneakers or mules to pair with leggings, which would you choose? Thank you!
Depends on my mood and what I’m doing that day!
Thank you! Do you think one is more flexible with other outfits? Like the Jenni Cheetah mules vs. the white Freda sneakers?
If I had to choose, I’d probably lean toward my Jenni Kayne mules since they feel more versatile for my own wardrobe and can work for both casual looks or dressier looks.
Thank you, Natalie!
Love this post! Happy I found your blog!
Thanks Amy!
You’re making me so excited for Fall dressing, Natalie!
Fall is the best time of year for fashion if you ask me!
