10 Rules for Effortless, Everyday Style

In this series, I share some simple tips for leveling up your daily looks.

Do you own a denim jumper? I wouldn’t be surprised if most of you don’t—I don’t really see them that often, other than on my friend Conni. And every time she wears hers, I find myself wishing I had one! Inevitably after seeing her wear hers, I always search high and low for a similar one and come up short. Lately I’ve been seeing a resurgence of them in a more fitted fashion (like this one—which I tried and didn’t love), and then I got a message on Instagram from one of you that led me to my perfect denim jumper on Amazon. This one right here!

I have the mid-blue wash, and it fits TTS (I’m wearing the small in all of these photos). For height reference, I’m 5’4″. In all of these outfits, I’m wearing my Emma Hoops in Brass Circle, which are handmade and currently sold out, but will be available again in my shop in the future!

Here are 7 ways to wear a denim jumper for spring…

Since a denim jumper/pinafore has a youthful feel to it, I wanted to be sure to balance that out with more elevated pieces. For this look, I slipped on my new flutter sleeve top and my favorite oxfords. I’m wearing the small in the top and that’s TTS, though I did get the petite length to wear it with high rise pants. The shoes are also TTS, but they definitely need to be properly broken in—they will feel snug when they arrive!

I couldn’t resist a classic denim and stripes combo. This top is a year-round favorite of mine (and this one is really similar for less money). I’m wearing the 0 in the top and it has a generous fit. The sandals are a recent find of mine for spring and summer—they fit TTS!

The headband was a risk, since that can also have a young feel to it—but I think it works thanks to the block heeled sandals and button-down shirt. As the weather is warming up, I know I’m going to be reaching for these sandals more and more—they work with everything! I linked this year’s version of them, which I admittedly think I like even more than the ones I have from last year.

Same sandals and jumper, different top—plus a necklace (this one has silhouettes of my kids in it)! This top has quickly become a springtime favorite of mine, and I know I’ll continue to wear it through the year. The color is pretty dreamy for fall, too. I got my usual size small and it has a roomy fit, but I decided I wouldn’t want it smaller.

Since the top is a bit masculine, I added a feminine touch with the gold mules. I got them a while ago and loved them for the holiday season, and now they’re proving to be even more versatile as we head into spring. I love the touch of metallic! They fit TTS, but you could go up 1/2 size if you’re on the fence.

Here’s a look that works for spring, or for fall. It’s an ideal outfit for awkward seasonal transitions when the weather is a bit fickle. Although the sweater is much bulkier than the lightweight blouses I’ve paired the jumper with so far, it didn’t look awkward. The jumper is loose enough and has thick enough material that it didn’t look bunchy. I love this combination! I sized up to the medium in the sweater, and the loafers are TTS (but you might consider sizing up 1/2 size if your foot is wide).

For the last look, I layered a simple fitted long sleeve tee underneath and brought back the gold mules. The tee is old from Madewell (they still sell some other colors) and it’s a great lightweight layer. I sized down to the XS for a slim fit for layering under overalls, etc.

If I’m totally honest, I’m 50/50 on whether or not I’m keeping the jumper. I feel mixed feelings because 1) it’s exactly what I was looking for, and 2) it’s also a really different style than I’m used to! It’s a bit more sweet and feminine than my usual picks, and I think I need to experiment a bit more. This try-on definitely showed me that it’s super versatile, though—and honestly I think it would be even better in the fall here in San Diego. Decisions, decisions…

So what do you think? Are you into denim jumpers or are they a pass for you?

I think you’ve pulled it off for sure! I normally wouldn’t pick something like this out but now I’m tempted – I think it would be cute and something different for the warmer weather :).

It’s so cute!! You totally pull it off. I need to find one long enough for me since I’m 5’10 haha
