10 Rules for Effortless, Everyday Style

In this series, I share some simple tips for leveling up your daily looks.

I added this slip dress to my wardrobe last fall as my leopard obsession began, and I’m happy to report that it is still a beloved and versatile piece in my closet. While this exact one is sold out, there are so many similar, affordable options out there:

I put together 5 looks for you showing off how I style this piece for a variety of weather and seasons. In every outfit, I’m wearing my Sydney Hoop Earrings in Mini Brass Squares, available on August 1st at natalieborton.com.

And before I begin, I’ll address the question I know I’ll get from a lot of you: what kind of bra do you wear with this?! Instead of a bra, I use these, but if you need more support I recommend a skin-colored strapless underwire bra.

FOR WARM WEATHER

This dress really speaks for itself with the bold pattern, but especially so in the warmer months when layering isn’t as easy. I love to define the waist with a belt bag (sized down in this one) and throw on some flat sandals (TTS) for an easy, low-key look.

FOR SEASONAL TRANSITIONS

When the weather is in-between, I have two go-to looks: wearing a lightweight tee underneath, or layering a denim jacket with it. The jacket also works well to define the waist if you don’t need the layer for warmth (and with it around your waist it makes a great summertime look). The tee is TTS and I sized up in the jacket. This crossbody has a gorgeous suede stripe detail (and is part of the Nordstrom sale right now!). My flat sandals are a summer go-to and fit TTS, and this is a similar pair of block heel sandals for you.

FOR COOLER WEATHER

This is exactly how I styled it last fall and how I’ll be wearing it again when the weather cools down here! It’s an edgy and comfortable look that is easy to wear. The tee is TTS and I recommend sizing up 1/2 size in the boots if you’re on the fence since the toe part is a bit snug. My bag is c/o Lo & Sons.

FOR DATE NIGHT

Lastly, here’s a date night look for you. A slip dress is inherently sexy, so it’s a no-brainer for a date. The belt (which I separated from the belt bag so I could have a belt and a clutch) defines the waist and creates a nice shape. I added a leather jacket (this one is similar) as a layer to add some edge since the heels add some feminine sweetness. It’s all about balance. I’m linking this season’s version of the heels for you, which are included in the Nordstrom sale.

Are you into slip dresses? Which look is your favorite?
