10 Rules for Effortless, Everyday Style

In this series, I share some simple tips for leveling up your daily looks.

Sweater / Jeans (size down 2 sizes) / Bag / Shoes / Similar sunglasses

I can’t believe another year is coming to a close. If I’m honest, it was a really hard year for me—my first full year running my own business as a mom of two kids had a lot of difficult, low moments that I’m so glad are behind me. At the same time, this year had some really amazing moments, too, and it was definitely my biggest year of growth for my business, so I have YOU to thank for that!

Here’s a look at the blog posts you loved the most, the clothes you shopped the most, the Instagram posts you viewed the most, my personal business highlights, and a peek at how this community has grown in the past 12 months.

Blog

One thing I started doing consistently this year was styling specific items multiple ways—and it’s clear that you are loving it, because these were the most viewed blog posts this year!

8 Ways to Style Faux Leather Spanx Leggings – These are a fall and winter staple for me—highly recommend them! Haven’t found a worthy knock-off and recommend saving up or waiting for a sale if the price point is a little high for you.

9 Ways to Style Straight Leg Jeans – This year I grew to love a new type of denim—straight-leg jeans! While I still wear my skinny jeans, straight-leg jeans are my go-to these days.

How to Style a Sweater Blazer – Want to feel cozy and look put-together? You need a sweater blazer.

Shopping

These were the items I linked that you shopped the most this year…

Universal Thread Kimono Cardigan – The green Target sweater!! You all clearly loved it as much as I did. What a find!

Urban Outfitters Wrap Dress – While I love cold weather, one good thing about spring next year will be busting out this gorgeous wrap dress again.

Everlane High Rise Skinny Ankle Jeans – Ethically made and under $70! I recommend sizing down one size. (If you want more info about these, check out my Q&A video.)

Prologue Mockneck Sweater – Another great Target find! I love that it’s lightweight so it’s easy to layer for winter. It runs small so size up!

J.Crew Point Sur Jeans and Madewell High Rise Slim Boyjeans – My go-to pairs of straight leg jeans. I sized down in both of them for the right fit!

Spanx Faux Leather Leggings – Unsurprisingly based on the success of the blog post, you guys were really into these! They’re a personal wardrobe staple of mine.

A New Day Over-the-Knee Boots – I’m so happy that so many of you took the plunge on these. They were a new style for me this fall and the price point is so good!

Hollister Leopard Cardigan – I love this cardigan so much! Super soft and cozy, and it adds a neutral pattern to even the most simple outfits. Fits true to size (despite the fact that it says “girls” on the website)—I got my usual size small.

J.Crew Sweater Blazer – A great #legitmomstyle choice—it’s comfortable and instantly makes any outfit look put-together.

Business

Just a few little notes…

  • This was my biggest sales year so far, and because of that, we were able to donate $10,000 to NEDA! I also did a small partnership with Touch-A-Life this year, and was able to donate $900 to help support their programs. I share this information not to “show off” or brag or anything, but to share that BECAUSE OF YOUR SUPPORT, together we were able to make a difference in peoples’ lives through these donations. Thanks for helping me do that!
  • Towards the end of the year, after I finished my maternity leave, I committed to releasing new products weekly. You responded SO WELL that a lot of stuff sold out by the end of the launch day. I am thankful for every single purchase you made, and can’t wait to create new things for you in 2019.
  • I did another pop-up shop at Madewell! It’s one of my all-time favorite brands and was just an honor to be able to sell my products from their store, even just for a few hours on a Saturday morning. I loved meeting those of you who were able to make it! (I also did a styling event at Madewell with my friend Karla—another great business highlight this year!)

Instagram

Our Instagram community grew by over 15,000 this year!!! THANK YOU! Also, in a time when it’s normal for people to buy followers or do shady things to grow their following, it’s worth mentioning that I have a Fohr Verified Following and over 4% average engagement. I have worked hard for years to build this community and it’s growing organically and authentically, all because you guys are REAL, and you show up, and you comment, and you interact with each other. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

Aside from giveaways, these were the most viewed posts in 2018 (there’s a real theme here with swimsuits and outfits with coffee, haha)…

Thank you so much for making what started as a really rough year into a pretty amazing one. You’re the best community I could ever ask for and I’m grateful for you. Cheers to 2019!
