10 Rules for Effortless, Everyday Style

In this series, I share some simple tips for leveling up your daily looks.

Did you know that tomorrow is #nationalstripesday? In honor of this fun Instagram holiday, I teamed up with my friend Conni (@artinthefind) to share some striped outfit ideas for summer. Stripes are classic, timeless, and never out of style. When in doubt, wear stripes!

In all of these outfits I’m wearing my  Emma Hoops in Mini Squares and Chloe Coin Necklace. See the style video on IGTV, or at the bottom of this post.

This is what I will be wearing for #nationalstripes day! Go big or go home, right?! But really, I got this jumpsuit recently after seeing it on my friend Ailsa (@_happygocurly_) and it is such a gem. I am 5’4″ and it hits me right at the ankle and is a great summer outfit option when you don’t want to wear shorts or a dress. The wide leg silhouette means no tight fabric, and that’s a win for me. I sized down to the 0 (normally I’m a 2 at J.Crew).

An easy, everyday look for late spring, summer and early fall. The top runs big, so I recommend sizing down (I have the XS and it still has a good oversized fit). The shorts are truly the best and worth every penny—I got my usual denim size (27) and you can see more styling ideas here. My bag is from the Clare V Sample sale and sadly not available on their site, but I linked another great perforated leather option for you.

This look has a preppy feel to it, which definitely works for summertime. I got this dress when I was postpartum with my daughter, so it’s a bit roomy now and the belt bag is a perfect solution for adding some shape to it. It’s no longer available, but I linked a similar option for you above, and this is a similar look for less. For the belt bag, I got the XS and probably could’ve sized down one more. I wear it at the smallest part of my waist and don’t need to have any “extra” belt since it’s tucked behind the bag part.

This one has a patriotic feel to it thanks to blue stripes and that rust red bag I adore so much. I will be wearing this outfit a lot this summer! Everything fits true to size.

Here’s another wide leg jumpsuit look for you—as mentioned above, it’s a great choice for summer when you aren’t feeling like shorts. J.Crew sent this to me for Memorial Day styling, and I’m so happy they did because I honestly never would’ve picked it for myself but I LOVE IT! It comes with a tie for the waist, but I decided to mix it up and use my belt bag instead. The jumpsuit is pretty true to size, but if you’re on the fence I’d size down.

Another easy, breezy, classic look for you. The sandals are old, but I linked a similar option for you. I love how gold sandals add a touch of femininity to outfits, and they also visually elongate the leg on many skin tones. The top runs big so I recommend sizing down. I’m wearing my usual Madewell size in the skirt (26) and it has an a-line fit that’s super flattering.

Same skirt, different outfit. By tying the shirt, I added some waist definition and a bit of detail I wouldn’t get if I just tucked it in. I love the sneakers with this look for a sporty vibe that’s incredibly comfortable. I got my usual size in them and seriously want to wear them every day. I will be styling these next week so stay tuned for that! The bag is a new addition that 31Bits sent over. It’s not super practical for everyday use, but it’s perfect for date nights or outings with friends when you don’t need to haul things for your kiddos.

Here’s another sneakers look for you—they really are so good. They have a mesh material that makes them breathable and perfect for summer. The shorts run pretty true to size (I got my usual 27), but I sized down for the top since my shoulders aren’t very broad and I didn’t need any extra length. It’s a great summer tee! The bag is old from Urban Outfitters, but I found similar options here and here.

Here’s a more muted stripe option. These Abercrombie cami tanks are super soft and perfect for hot weather. I got my usual size small and they’re roomy, but I wouldn’t necessarily size down. You can see more wide leg crops ideas here—they fit true to size, but have a lot of stretch so you could size down if you’re in between sizes. The shoes are true to size. Unfortunately the bag isn’t available, but I linked another perforated leather option I love.

One last summer option for you—a striped bikini and sheer coverup! I got the small top and medium bottoms in the bikini, which is pretty typical for me with swimwear—fair warning, the bottoms have a cheeky fit! The coverup runs really big and I ended up with the XXS. It’s currently backordered until October, so this is another similar option for you.

Are you a stripes person? Which look is your favorite?
