10 Rules for Effortless, Everyday Style

In this series, I share some simple tips for leveling up your daily looks.

MIX TEXTURES & PATTERNS — Combining different textures and patterns can add depth and interest to your look. Here are 3 easy ways to try it out:

  • Color Coordination: To unify the look, ensure there’s a color that ties the different textures and patterns together. This could be a neutral shade like black, white, or tan, or a more vibrant color present in each piece of the outfit. Here, the brown in the loafers ties in the brownish red in the shirt stripe. Texture is extremely important for tonal and monochromatic looks so they don’t fall flat.
  • Play with Accessories: Accessories are a very easy way to incorporate textures and patterns. In this look, the rope bag, the gold earrings and the croc loafers add texture to the outfit and make it interesting along with the patterned shirt.
  • Mix Fabrics: Combine & layering different fabrics adds texture to everyday looks. For example, a leather blazer paired with denim creates tactile contrast.
