10 Rules for Effortless, Everyday Style

In this series, I share some simple tips for leveling up your daily looks.

With all this time at home lately, I’ve been reaching for my favorite sweaters almost every day. They’re cozy and comforting, and I find that when I get dressed for the day (even when I just elevate my leggings) I feel better overall and am in a more productive mood. Today I’m going to give you a full week of outfit ideas—well, 8 outfits to be exact—featuring some of my favorite go-to sweaters for spring.

These looks are simple and comfortable. They’re very work-from-home friendly, and many of them work well for a day at home playing with kids, too. Every sweater is styled with sneakers and comfy mules because those are honestly the only two types of shoes I’m reaching for when I leave the house to take Hank on his walks or to watch the kids while they play in the driveway. Hopefully this post will inspire you to grab a cozy knit this week and wear it in a new way.

The earrings I’m wearing are the 14K Gold Hoops and 14K Gold Textured Huggie Hoops from my shop. They’re sold out but will be available again later this spring! My link necklace is a new piece coming to the shop with the next product release, and the longer necklace is from A Family Print Shop.

Lastly, a lot of these looks include pieces from Everlane, which is currently offering 25% off sitewide (they’ve never done this!!).

Sweater (c/o) / Leggings (c/o) / Jacket / Sneakers (c/o)

I’ve worn this outfit several times in the past few weeks. It’s an easy, laid back look with leggings that feels chic thanks to the monochromatic base (leggings + sweater) and extra detail of the denim jacket. I have my usual size in everything, except I went up a size in the denim jacket.

Sweater / Jeans / Mules (all c/o)

I can’t wait to wear this look for real. It’s so luxe feeling, but also incredibly comfortable thanks to the looser fit of the jeans and the soft sweater. The python mules add a fun pop of pattern. I sized up 2 sizes in the sweater, went down a size in the jeans (I have the ankle length and I’m 5’4″) and went up 1/2 size in the mules.

Sweater (c/o) / Shorts / Mules (c/o)

It’s going to warm up a bit around here this week and I love to mix sweaters with shorts in the springtime! This sweater is lightweight and will definitely be worn through the summer, as well. I recommend sizing up in the shorts if you’re unsure or hate tight shorts like me, and I went up 1/2 size in the mules. The code Natalie20 gives you 20% off the sweater (and anything at Jenni Kayne), and for the month of April they’re giving away a free copy of their book, Pacific Natural, whenever you use my code.

Sweater (c/o) / Shirt / Jeans (c/o) / Mules (c/o)

This button-down (TTS) has been a wardrobe hero of mine for years! It’s truly a year-round piece for me in San Diego, and I love it mixed with this cozy sweater and white mules. I have the sweater in my usual size but definitely could’ve sized down. The jeans are pretty true to size, and I went up 1/2 size in the mules.

Sweater blazer / Tee / Jeans (c/o) / Mules (c/o)

This is the most “work from home”/professional of the looks, but I want to add a disclaimer that I 100% wear outfits like this when I’m home with my kids! This is a great look for days when you have a Zoom call, and then have to get on the floor and play with blocks with your toddler. The jeans and top are pretty TTS, though if you’re unsure I’d go up a size in the top (it’s super fitted like a bodysuit). I went up 1/2 size in the mules and sized down 2 sizes in the blazer (it runs so big!).

Sweater / Jeans (c/o) / Mules (c/o)

Easiest combo ever that feels put-together: cashmere sweater, high rise straight leg jeans, mules. I like to size up in these cashmere sweaters so they’re not too fitted. I sized down a size in the jeans and have the ankle length, and I went up 1/2 size in the mules.

Sweater / Jeans / Mules (all c/o)

Monochromatic looks are one of the easiest ways to wear comfy clothes and look chic. While I maybe would steer away from this if you’re serving messy food to your kids for lunch or playing with paints, it’s a comfy look that is both work-friendly and lounge-worthy thanks to relaxed fitting jeans and an oversized fit on the sweater. I have my usual size in the sweater, but sized down in the jeans (and have ankle length) and went up 1/2 size in the mules.

Sweater (c/o) / Jacket / Leggings (c/o) / Sneakers (c/o)

One more leggings look to round out my sweater ideas—this is another way to elevate stretchy pants, and it gets a 10/10 from me for dog walking and chasing around children. The code Natalie20 gives you 20% off the sweater (and anything at Jenni Kayne), and for the month of April they’re giving away a free copy of their book, Pacific Natural, whenever you use my code. I have my usual size in everything, except I went up a size in the denim jacket.
