A few notes before we dive in: I know that CBD is not a cure-all, and isn’t going to solve every problem out there. I’m not dishing out medical advice — definitely consult your doctor — but rather sharing about my personal experience. Using it has helped me immensely, and if it might be an option for some of you, that makes it worth sharing. I used these products as a paying customer for a full year, and am now an ambassador for the brand. That means I now have a discount code for first time customers, and receive free product as well as make commissions when you choose to buy through my links or use my code.
It all started in Fall 2019. I had a few big career opportunities happening, and with them came a whole lot of stress. I put sleep and self-care on the back-burner and did not feel like my best self. I knew I needed to get more rest in order to function at my best, but my mind would not turn off at night. And when I finally would fall asleep (after what felt like forever), the littlest things would wake me up and then it would take an hour or more to get back to sleep again. Bonus: all of the stress and poor sleep made my eczema flare up so bad. I was exhausted and uncomfortable and honestly pretty desperate.
I got connected to Equilibria through my friend Jess Keys, and they offered to send me their Brilliance Box so I could try some products and see if they’d help. I worked with a dosage specialist (free dosage support is included with every order) and found the right product and dosage for my goals. I started off with a full dropper of The Daily Drops right before bed every night — I just hold it under my tongue for 60 seconds to let it take effect — and they started helping me almost immediately.
After several months of using that recommended dose and really getting my body the rest it needed, I started to notice that I felt groggy in the morning. So I reached out to my dosage consultant, Maia, and she gave me a few options to try. She even followed up a week later to see how things were going and confirm that I’d solved my problem. I ended up taking her recommendation to reduce my dose to 3/4 dropper and it was perfect for me.
I know there are a lot of influencers talking about Equilibria, and while I understand it can make some of you skeptical, I can confidently recommend these products if you’re in a place where you’re exploring CBD. I don’t want to add to the noise, but rather share my experience in case it ends up being as helpful for you as it has been for me.
Want to give it a try? Use NATALIEBORTON for 15% off your first order or first month of your subscription. I highly recommend a subscription, as consistency is really key with CBD, it saves you money (the subscription price is 20% off the retail price), and it’s super easy to cancel or modify the subscription if it doesn’t end up working out for you.
Now, let’s tackle some FAQs about CBD in general and Equilibria specifically…
What is CBD? Does it make you high?
CBD is a natural ingredient found within industrial hemp flowers. It is clinically proven to impact mental and physical well-being, when taken properly and consistently. It is a powerful health agent, but there is no discernible impairment (no high!).
The Cannabis Sativa plant is bred and grown in two different ways:
- As “marijuana” with up to 30% THC content. THC is the psychoactive part of cannabis. And in higher amounts, it causes the intoxicating “high” effect.
- As “industrial hemp” with less than 0.3% THC content. which makes it a completely federally legal agricultural crop in the U.S. This is the kind that Equilibria is.
Where is the hemp that Equilibria uses sourced from?
The hemp in their CBD products is sourced from their 1,100-acre Colorado partner farm. The farm hand harvests all its hemp flowers to create their full-spectrum hemp flower oil — no seeds, leaves, or stalks, and DEFINITELY no isolate (more on that below!)
I’m new to CBD, but want to try it…where do I start?!
Equilibria recommends starting out “low and slow” and I feel like that’s a smart way to go about it. They have a quick start guide here that gives some basic starting points and tips for each product. I’d start with a subscription to one of their boxes — Balance Box, Brilliance Box or Body Box. Any of those would be a good starting point so you can try a few products and figure out what works best for you. The subscription saves you money (it’s 20% off retail price), and you can cancel anytime so it’s a low commitment.
What’s the difference between the subscription boxes?
Balance Box — The Balance Box includes two of their most popular products: Daily Drops for fast-acting, targeted relief, and Daily Softgels for a sustained release.
Brilliance Box — The Brilliance Box includes three of their most popular products: Daily Drops, Daily Softgels, and also their topical Relief Cream for local discomfort (like sore muscles or menstrual cramping). You can select between Unflavored or Mint flavored Daily Drops.
Body Box — This one is brand new and all-topical. Perfect for the new CBD user, athletes, and that time of the month. This box includes the Relief Cream, Daily Treatment Oil (I use this on my face every night!), and Mindful Mineral Soak.
Do you need to take it every day? Or can you use as needed?
You can certainly use as needed, but you’ll get the most out of it when used daily like a multivitamin. CBD, like all cannabinoids, builds up in the body over time. A daily dose can help maintain sustained levels in your system and promote a more effective Endocannabinoid System (ECS). The ECS is a biological system that has shown to help control sleep, mood, inflammation, and overall homeostasis (a body’s state of balance). You can learn more about the benefits of daily CBD use here.
Can you use it while pregnant or breastfeeding?
There’s very little data as to whether or not CBD can be used during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, which makes this a bit of an unknown. It comes down to personal choice and should definitely be a discussion with your doctor.
What’s the difference between full-spectrum, broad-spectrum, and CBD isolate? Which kind of CBD is Equilibria?
Full-spectrum CBD oil contains more than just CBD. It includes many other cannabinoids and terpenes (including trace amounts of THC – tetrahydrocannabinol) that combine to create an “entourage effect” of compounded benefits, activating the CBD for best efficacy in the body. Equilibria CBD is full-spectrum.
Broad-spectrum CBD oil is similar to full-spectrum except it does NOT contain any THC whatsoever. It is not recommended unless someone absolutely cannot have THC in their bloodstream.
Isolate is just what it sounds like: pure CBD, stripped of all the other chemical compounds. The removal of these other compounds means no entourage effect and noticeably reduced efficacy.
What products do you personally use, and how often? Have you had side effects?
I’ve been using the Daily Drops every night for over a year now with no side effects (other than the positive side effect of actually getting a quality night sleep). I started with a full dropper, but now my dose is 3/4 dropper. I take it when I get into bed, right before I read my book. Usually within 15 minutes I feel ready to sleep.
I also have been using the Daily Treatment Oil on my face nightly for the past couple of months. You can read more about my current skincare routine here, but in a nutshell, I love this face oil! It has a light, citrusy scent and is hydrating without sitting heavy.
Are the Equilibria products pretty much all the same? Or do they really work differently?
Different delivery methods produce different results. Oil drops are held under the tongue for only a few seconds. In a few minutes, they absorb into your bloodstream and you feel the effects. But they tend to move quickly out of your system 3-8 hours later. Ingested softgel capsules absorb more slowly since they need to pass through your digestive system. But that means they also last longer: between 5-12 hours! Topically-applied creams and balms absorb in minutes. And the effect can last several hours.
Have any other questions? Leave them below! Also would love to hear experiences from those of you that have already started using Equilibria.
P.S. If you want to hear more about the lessons my 2019 burnout taught me, I shared more on that in this podcast interview.
