A New Chapter

Hello, hello! I’m so excited to introduce you to the new Natalie Borton blog! It’s time for a fresh start, and today I’m filling you in on all the changes…

I’m a jewelry designer, wife and mother striving to live a simple, stylish life in San Diego, California. My husband Brian and I met just a few months after graduating from college and got married when we were 24. We’ve been married for 6 years now and are parents to the sweetest, happiest, best little 2-year-old boy named Jack and have a baby girl on the way, due this October. I’m a stay-at-home, work-at-home mom and the balance between motherhood and work is never easy but is absolutely worth it when you’re passionate about what you do (like I am!).

Three things I will never tire of? The ocean, sushi and Prosecco. I love spending time with my family, learning new things, getting lost in a great book (nonfiction and fiction alike), and laughing until I cry.

The truth is, I’ve felt a bit disconnected from the Thoughts by Natalie blog  since I started my jewelry business and have been debating whether to keep it or start fresh for at least a year now. It was a blog I started when I was a completely different person, in a different place, with different interests. Since becoming a mother and a designer, I’ve felt less connected to my identity as a “lifestyle blogger” and more of a desire to focus on my core business.

My biggest fear was losing my solid readership base since I’ve had Thoughts by Natalie going on for so many years, but the more time goes by the more I realize I don’t care very much about stats or numbers, but rather authentically connecting with you all as customers and friends and fellow mamas and entrepreneurs. And that’s what I want to do here!

I honestly considered abandoning blogging completely because I felt like it wasn’t something people were as interested in these days, but after polling a lot of you informally via Instagram many of you confirmed that you either read the blog regularly, check it when I tell you on Instagram I’ve put up a new post, or at the very least enjoy being able to reference content I’ve shared before. So with that input, the blogging continues—just in a slightly new format.

Style posts | Style is something I love and is at the root of my business, so it’s going to be a big part of this blog! I’ll have a new special focus on styling my jewelry with the outfits I feature, and will continue to do collaborations with other fashion brands. I’ll also feature other women styling my pieces for a bit more variety, as well as continue to provide links for you to shop what I’m wearing (or something similar!) for those of you who have enjoyed that in the past.

Shop updates | Behind the scenes peeks of upcoming releases, new product launches, special deals, work-at-home life, ask-the-audience type posts and more.

Personal posts | I’d love to share some personal content here and continue to let you in on my life when I’m not working. Motherhood, marriage, home, etc. There will be fewer of these than the other posts, but they will be mixed in with the content for sure as a way for you to know me a bit better.

Favorite things | One of the reasons I started blogging is because I really love to share about things I love with other people. While my previous blog focused a lot more of this type of post, here these posts will likely be monthly roundup posts so it doesn’t overwhelm the content. Since I know my favorite links posts were really popular with a lot of you, I’m also considering including my favorite links from the week in a newsletter instead of a weekly blog post—let me know in the comments below if you’re interested in that!

Lastly, I will be keeping Thoughts by Natalie up and running for the time being so you can easily reference any old posts, and I also may move over some of my favorite relevant content to this site, but that’s still TBD .

One thing that hasn’t changed is my social media—you can follow me on Instagram and Pinterest primarily, and I’m also on Facebook from time to time.

So there you have it, the new blog is here and I’m feeling excited to have a fresh start! My hope is that this can be a more focused, authentic place of sharing that is true to the life I’m living now. Thanks so much for being part of my entrepreneurial journey!

So happy for you and your beautiful family! I started reading your blog when I was pregnant with my daughter, and now she’s 2! I love your style and all your parenting tips. Bringing up Bebe was one of my favorite books and I definitely have modeled my parenting style around it. Congratulations! I look forward to following along with your new blog and of course your instagram!

Congrats! Beautiful new site! I had to do some hunting to figure out why I hadn’t seen you post on your other blog (I don’t have Instagram), so you might want to post this update over there for blog only followers to see. I also use Bloglovin’, if you’re able to get this new blog linked over there. Good luck, I’m excited to follow along!

Love it, Natalie! So, so excited for you and your sweet family. I actually just went back and searched one of your old posts for the book you recommended on sleep training. Hopefully, it works with baby Judah, haha! And thanks for sharing the Shauna N. article, too!

Oh yes, everything from The Happy Sleeper was so life-changing for us (and for so many of our friends!). Best sleep book in my opinion—perfect for sensitive mamas like me who also really want some sleep, haha.

I’m so happy you decided to continue blogging. You are my style goals and I consider you to be one of the top resources for not only style inspiration, but real-life wearable clothing. You always feature a variety of brands that are both budget-friendly and a little splurgier so that I can model my wardrobe around pieces I can pick up at Target or Old Navy and then splurge on a few key pieces like a dress from Madewell or a pair of killer loafers. I can’t wait to see what is to come!

Such a big compliment! My wardrobe definitely has that mix of high and low and I’m glad you find it to be practical, too—some things are worth spending on and some things just aren’t, right?

Congratulations on your new baby! And your new blog! It’s always a good move to slow things down and focus on what really matters, but I’m glad you’ll still be posting now and then. I discovered your blog through your articles about true beauty in light of your faith. I hope that type of post will also have a place here.

Thank you Kara! Those types of posts were what got me started in blogging and I do hope to get back into some of that content in the “personal” section of this new blog. My faith is important to me, and I’m so passionate about being a positive influence about beauty, body image and worth. Right now I’m doing that through donating a portion of sales to NEDA, but I do miss writing about those topics from time to time!

So excited for you, Natalie! Congrats on baby girl! As a long time reader and fan of your blog I would be sad if it was gone so yay for a fresh start but still keeping it 🙂 I always think of you as such a cornerstone of inspiration to that time in my life when I was blogging !

Thank you for keeping the content from your old blog as I’m getting my haircut tomorrow and am planning to show my stylist the post you wrote “then new long”! I enjoy reading your blog so much and am a big fan of your jewelry (two in possession and wanting more) so I’m glad it’s a transition and not over. I would definitely subscribe to a newsletter. And most importantly congratulations on being a mama to another sweet little soul!!
