10 Rules for Effortless, Everyday Style

In this series, I share some simple tips for leveling up your daily looks.

I’m always more productive and happy when I get dressed for the day rather than stay in pajamas or athletic clothes—there’s some kind of clear distinction that happens when I take a few minutes to put on real clothes, even when I’m home all day. The reality is, I’ve been working from home for years and the clothes you see me wearing here on the blog and on Instagram are the clothes I really do wear around my house on work days and days with my kids. That being said, I know a lot of you are spending a lot more time at home than usual with this quarantine season we are in, and you’re wanting to wear something comfortable but not get stuck wearing leggings for weeks.

My solution for you: jumpsuits.

They’re a one-and-done kind of outfit that you can layer a sweater or shirt with, or just wear as-is. In partnership with Everlane, I’m sharing 5 laid-back, easy-to-wear jumpsuits to wear now at home and later when this pandemic is over and we can finally return to normal life. I’m 5’4″ and sized down in all of these, but I wouldn’t recommend sizing down if you’re tall or have a long torso.

I’ve had this jumpsuit the longest and it’s still my favorite—so classic, easy to wear, and can be dressed up or dressed down. Here I cozied it up with an alpaca sweater. One feature I love about this jumpsuit is the adjustable straps—you can unbutton them in the back to create shorter or longer straps, and you could even criss-cross them.

I can’t get enough of this color!! The buttons are functional on this one, which is good news for all of you nursing mamas out there—wish this jumpsuit existed back when I was still nursing my babies because it’s so cool and comfortable.

This one is the same as the black one above, in a new colorway. I know this will get a lot of wear this summer, and it would be a perfect piece for summer holidays, too (Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day). I want to bring this with me to Nantucket this summer for sure. Just like the black one, the straps are adjustable and can be unbuttoned for a customized fit.

This jumpsuit truly can go as dressy or as casual as you’d like. I’d wear it belted to a formal event with heels and some great jewelry, or loungey and unbelted like this or with a soft cardigan for home life. Unlike the more structured feel of the linen jumpsuits, this fabric has a slinky, smooth feel and a gorgeous v-neck in the front and back. It comes with a belt, but I wore it here loose and comfy with a classic white button down as an easy layer for chilly mornings.

This jumpsuit is SO comfortable and the material has a good amount of stretch to it—and it’s another nursing friendly option for you mamas out there! It does run a little bit long for me, so I may tailor it. But I love the color and fabric so much. Truth be told, I’d also love to see them make a version of this with a slimmer fit/tapered leg. Sign me up for that!
