A white button down shirt is a foundational wardrobe piece for me—when I don’t know what to wear, it’s always what I reach for! It’s instantly polished and classic and pairs well with pretty much every other thing in my closet.
My love for the white button down runs deep enough that I have several different styles—short sleeve, sleeveless (this is similar), drapey, and an oxford style. Today I’m going to be styling the most classic of them all: the oxford (this is the exact one I have, it fits TTS). The material is thick enough that it’s not see-through, and it works most seamlessly from casual to dressy to professional, so it’s the style that most of you are likely to already own.
Today I’m sharing a bunch of holiday-inspired outfits with the white shirt that range from casual to dressy and could work in a variety of occasions in the coming weeks. In all of these looks, I’m wearing my Sydney Hoop Earrings in Metallic Gold Wood and my favorite matte red lipstick in “Zip.” Here are 9 ways to take your white button down from everyday to holiday…
This skirt is definitely the most bold item in my entire closet, but I just fell in love with it instantly at the store when I tried it on! I ended up sizing down because it’s the only size they had, but note that there isn’t any stretch so factor that into your sizing decision.
Feeling a little bit like Ross from “The One With All the Resolutions” (aka my favorite episode of Friends ever!!). But seriously, I’ve wanted a pair of real leather pants for so long and never really found a pair that seemed right until these beauties!! They run a smidge big and have the same fit as my high rise skinny jeans. Sadly they’re almost sold out, but if they have your size and fit in your budget I can tell you they’re pretty amazing!
These boots have been the best purchase! They’re only $40 and I’ve had them for over a year and they are incredibly comfortable. Highly recommend them! The sweater coat runs big so definitely size down in that.
I’m honestly shocked this cardigan is still available because the color is so perfect for wintertime. It runs big, so be sure to size down for the best fit.
First of all, this bag—it sells out QUICK and won’t be around forever. They finally restocked it so if you’ve been thinking about it, now is the time to grab it! Now, for the rest of the look. I wear leopard all year round, but it does have a festive vibe to it so I especially love it this time of year (even more so with a red lip!). These leggings run small so I recommend going up a size if you can, and the shoes run big so size down 1/2 size for the best fit. I went down a size in the blazer but I think my regular size would’ve worked too—depends on the fit you’re after!
Black and white is such a versatile combo that always works. These wide leg crops run really big, so I recommend going down 2 sizes.
I love the mix of destroyed denim and heels and this look is no exception. These exact jeans are my all-time favorites from Madewell, but sadly are almost entirely sold out. I really hope they bring them back one day!! Until then, these are a similar looking pair.
I broke up the all black look with the white shirt layered underneath, and added some festivity with a pop of red from the bag. These faux leather leggings are another wardrobe staple of mine and I recommend them to everyone—they do run small, so I’d go down a size if you can.
This is a very everyday look, elevated for holiday with gold loafers and a leopard clutch. I was sort of in between sizes when I tried on these shoes at the store, so I went with my smaller size since leather stretches over time. This sweater coat is new, but already has been worn several times because it’s just that good. It runs big, so I went down a size. The curvy fit of these jeans runs a bit big so I went down a size, and I also have the ankle length.
