Earlier this year I challenged myself to try something new and shared 6 ways to style a denim jacket (I hadn’t worn mine in over a year!). After that style session I realized that I loved the look of a denim jacket, but the one I’d had for years just wasn’t the right fit or wash for my current style. So I donated it, found a replacement that I love (this one, size up!), and got so into wearing that one that I bought the one I’m styling for you today!
I love the different silhouette this one has, and it’s a true mid-blue wash that is really versatile. Size-wise, I am wearing my usual size small, but you could size down since it has an oversized fit. It’s all a matter of preference! If you’re especially petite, I recommend going down a size for sure.
In all of these outfits, I’m wearing my Chloe Coin Necklace, silhouette locket (c/o Family Print Shop, 18″ length), and my new, not-yet-available Emma Hoops in Mini Brass Bicone. While the Chloe Necklace isn’t available right now, The Mama Coin Necklace Set is coming to the shop next week for the mamas out there who are wanting to do some necklace layering!
I love white jeans with denim jackets! It’s such an easy combination, especially this time of year. I’ve had these white jeans forever and I still haven’t found a pair I like more. I currently roll them, though I’m considering cutting the hems this summer using this post as a guide. Also, I have to talk about these mules. I loved them from the moment I saw them, so when they were included in the last Madewell sale I snagged them! I wear my Harper mules SO MUCH, so I knew they’d be worth it. They fit me true to size.
Another easy thing to pair with a denim jacket? Black jeans! Just like the white ones, I’ve had these for years and they’re still in great shape. I’m wearing my usual Madewell size (26) in them. For the top, I ended up with my usual size small, but I got the petite length so it wouldn’t hit too low and shorten my leg line.
Two things I’m really loving this year: bodysuits and belt bags. This bodysuit is from a local boutique and I can’t find it online, but I did find a similar one that I’m actually considering getting myself for an upcoming bodysuit styling video. Stay tuned for that! For the belt bag I got the XS, and the sandals are true to size.
Mixing denim with denim can be really tricky, so one little trick is to stick with two different washes. These jeans have a neutral, dark blue wash that works well with the true mid-blue wash of the jacket. I admit this look was very inspired by J.Crew—they always seem to do denim and leopard really well, and I love this new cami (fit is TTS). My sandals are shockingly comfortable for the price, and I linked this year’s version of them for you. SO cute.
I love this look so much! Such an easy outfit for spring. These shorts are new and actually are part of a set—they can be worn alone, or with a wrap skirt over them as a skort. So mom-friendly and cute. I have the XS (which is definitely the right size because the small was too big), but I really wish it had a zipper on the side because I really had to wiggle myself into them, haha.
After much debate between the olive jumpsuit and the copper jumpsuit, copper won for me! The material on this one is much softer, and I ultimately felt more confident in this one so it was the winner. I’m wearing the size 1, petite length. If you need a few more styling ideas for this jumpsuit or a similar one, you can see my jumpsuit styling post here.
Lastly, a dress and a denim jacket are a match made in heaven. Denim jackets add a “cool” factor to balance out the femininity of the dress, and they’re such an easy layer in spring and summer when you’re likely to be wearing dresses more often. This dress is true to size and is also available in navy and white. The sandals are a recent Target find and fit true to size.
Which look is your favorite? How do you like to wear your denim jacket?
