Denim cutoffs are an absolute wardrobe staple for me as a San Diegan. As the weather warms up, I trade out my Boyjeans and skinny jeans for shorter, more casual denim and I feel like I could style them 1,000 different ways! Today I’m sharing 6 of my ideas with you to take you into spring and even summer.
I’ve already dished about the shorts I’m featuring in this post right here. In a nutshell: these jeans are pricey, but worth every penny and I can’t believe I waited so long to get them!! Here are the key differences between the two pairs of shorts:
- Parker Shorts: These have more of a boyfriend shorts type of feel. They have a lower rise than the Dee shorts, a shorter inseam (2.75″) and a really casual vibe. TTS for me, but you could size down if you don’t have a booty I think.
- Dee Shorts: Super high rise and a longer (4″) inseam. Perfect casual shorts for moms or anyone looking for a bit more coverage without compromising the “cool” factor. TTS, with a good snug fit right up at your natural waist. (If you’re looking for a less expensive option that is similar to the Dee style, try these $60 ones! Fit is TTS.)
In all of these looks I’m wearing my Chloe Coin Necklace, silhouette locket (c/o Family Print Shop, 18″ length) and Emma Hoops in Brass Circle.
I’ve already worn this outfit several times, because it’s just such an easy go-to for warmer days here in SoCal. This blouse and these shorts are a match made in heaven. I’m wearing my usual size in the top!
I love the mix of super casual denim shorts with a cozy knit sweater—this is spring outfit perfection right here! While I’d normally reach for a sandal, I love the mules with this outfit for spring days when there is still a little chill in the air. It elevates the look a bit, don’t you think? I sized up in the sweater and went up 1/2 size in the mules.
I’m always a fan of high-low mixing and this is no exception. I love the mix of the blazer with the cutoffs, plus a classic stripe makes this whole look feel so mature and dressy enough for a brunch with your girlfriends or to wear out on a date. The key to this look is definitely choosing shorts with a longer inseam! The blazer runs a bit big, so I recommend sizing down.
This is an easy, breezy spring or summer look for warmer days. I scooped up this top on sale from J.Crew in this color and the golden color and it’s so lovely—the quality is amazing! I got my usual size (small), but went with the petite length so that I could wear it with high rise bottoms and have it hit at the right spot on my body. This is especially important for me with a peplum top since I’m not tucking it in! Also, these sandals—so comfortable, and definitely a summer staple for me. They are TTS!
I’m not usually one for black shoes in the warmer months, but I really love these mules with this leopard sweater! Combined with the black crossbody, the look feels tied together and balanced in a way I don’t think it would feel if I went with sandals instead. This sweater is a Target find, but the J.Crew one I linked is gorgeous and is a classic, timeless piece.
Lastly, I couldn’t resist some denim on denim! This past year I finally traded out my old, too-small chambray for this oversized one (I just went up a size to the 6), and I’m so glad I did! The fit is so much better and it’s easier to incorporate into my wardrobe. I paired it with my new leopard sandals (TTS), which I cannot wait to style over and over again for spring and summer. I’m sure you’ll be seeing a lot of these!
