Let me first get this out of the way: a denim jacket is not in my comfort zone. I know it probably seems like something I’d say is a “wardrobe staple” based on how timeless, classic and somewhat masculine it is, but truly I haven’t worn a denim jacket in over a year! I actually had to dig it out of the back of my closet to style it for you, and I’m glad I did because I’m realizing two things:
1) It really is a great wardrobe piece, and
2) I think I need to invest in a new denim jacket!
The one I have is old from J.Crew factory and it’s honestly a little small, plus I don’t know if I love the wash. It looks pretty good here in these photos, but it was impossible to pair with any blue denim. I’d love to find something that fits better and is even more versatile. I’m going to link some good options for you in this post!
Anyway, let’s get things started—today I have six looks for you to try with your denim jacket. Some of them are are winter-friendly, and some are great for making that transition into spring. For today’s styling, I teamed up with my friends Cori and Conni, who are both styling denim jackets for you today as well. Click on any of their names to visit their LiketoKnow.it profile and shop their looks. In every look I’m wearing my Julia Earrings in Geometric Mix, which will be available on February 21st at 9am California time. I also ended up adding a red lip in some of the later looks, and I’ll link that below for you!
Here are 6 ways I’m experimenting with a denim jacket right now (see the IGTV video here)…
You guys…why did I hold out for so long on wide leg pants?! I love them! They work so well with this knotted shirt and since my denim jacket is kind of shrunken, it creates a really nice silhouette. I love the mix of denim with classic black, white and brown.
Again I went for black pants here because they just are so easy to pair with a blue denim jacket. To keep the outfit interesting, I added in some leopard with my ankle boots. It’s a pattern that works really well with a denim jacket—J.Crew has been pairing them together for years!
More black and leopard! When it works, it works. I swapped out my boots for some low cut pointed black ones that Everlane gifted me—they get more and more comfortable each time I wear them, and have become a true winter wardrobe staple of mine. I love the edgy pointed toe!
While I was digging around for my denim jacket in the back of my closet, I found this polka dot jumpsuit from last year that pairs so well with the jacket! I love the sweetness of the dots balanced out by the masculinity of the denim jacket. And the gold mules add some more personality, too.
Here’s a pop of color for you! I love this outfit for spring weather. Admittedly putting on this outfit reminded me that my legs haven’t seen the sun in several months, haha. But honestly, I love the way the jacket adds some structure to this very flowy babydoll style dress.
One last look for you, this time featuring white denim! Of course I brought in the leopard again because it works so well as a pop of pattern. For my top, I chose a silky lace cami to add a feminine touch, and I love the way the top so easily tucks into the jeans without adding any bunching. It’s such a great wardrobe piece to have, as it can really be dressed up or down.
Hopefully this style session was helpful and inspiring for you! Next week, I’ll be teaming up with some friends to style the Everlane wide leg crop pants, and I can’t wait to share those looks with you! They arrived a few days ago and I already ordered another pair in a different color. They are so comfortable!
Are you a denim jacket lover? How do you like to wear yours? Which of these looks was your favorite?
Hi Natalie! I am a huge fan. I am wondering where you got the two photos in the background of the pictures you post – the one of the ocean and the other of a cliff and water.
Thanks,
Ashley
