10 Rules for Effortless, Everyday Style

In this series, I share some simple tips for leveling up your daily looks.

I admit I’m a little late to the bandwagon, but I am totally hooked on sneakers this year! Back in March I shared 4 outfits with sneakers for spring, and today I have 6 outfit ideas with sneakers for summertime. My favorite way to wear mine is with a super feminine dress (like the photo below). I just love the contrast and how it lets me wear something that normally would be saved for date night during the daytime.

These are the shoes I’m styling in each outfit—they fit true to size and are so, so comfortable! They are made with a breathable mesh material and a massage footbed, making them perfect for hot summer days when you just want to wear comfortable shoes.

In all of these outfits I’m wearing my Emma Hoop Earrings in Mini Brass Squares, Chloe Coin Necklace and my three Yearly Co. bangles—I have two Initial Bangles (with “J” and “L” on them for my kids’ initials) and a Twist Bangle.

Dress / Bag (c/o) / Sneakers

This dress is a new addition to my wardrobe for summer and was such a good find! I had been on the hunt for a feminine floral dress to pair with sneakers and sandals this summer and as soon as I tried this on I knew it had to come home with me. It does run really big, so be sure to size down 2 sizes (I have on the 00 and am normally a 2 in dresses at Madewell). The exact bag I’m wearing is from 31Bits (which I linked above), but this is another good option to check out too!

Fancy on top, casual on the bottom! Shorts and sneakers can feel really casual and boyish/childish, so I wanted to mix in some feminine details to balance it all out and fit my personal style. This tee is such a gorgeous golden yellow color that I know I’ll be able to wear through the fall. It runs a little bit big, but not a ton. I sized down to the XS because I don’t have very broad shoulders and knew I would be wearing it with high rise bottoms. The shorts are from Agolde and have the most perfect shape and slouch to them—I got my usual denim size, 27, and they fit perfectly. Lastly, this is my go-to straw hat for summer. I love it so much I shipped a second one to keep at my parents’ house in Massachusetts so I don’t have to worry about damaging it in my suitcase or have to deal with carrying it on while juggling two small children.

Another example of the fancy top/casual bottom mixing. The feminine eyelet top works really well with these high rise shorts, too, as it has a more roomy fit. I recommend sizing down in it (I ended up with the XS). The shorts are my other pair of Agolde shorts and truly the most perfect pair of denim shorts I’ve ever put on my body. Can’t recommend these enough! I got my usual denim size (27).

Dress / Bag (c/o) / Sneakers

I’m so sad this dress is almost sold out! It’s amazing! It’s actually the same exact style as the rust colored one shown here, so when it was on sale a little while ago I snagged it. I sized down to XS because I’m so small chested, but you could stay true to size if that’s not the case for you. If they don’t have this dress in your size, I found two other green dress options for summer here and here.

I love the tomboy feel this outfit has. To keep this look from feeling too boyish and casual, I decided a skirt would be the perfect touch of femininity. This tee is SO SOFT and available in tons of colors. I have it in white and rust red, too. I got my usual size small, but it has a loose fit so you could size down if you wanted it less slouchy. The bag is one that I snagged during the Clare V sample sale and sadly they don’t sell it right now, but this is another perforated leather option. The skirt has an a-line fit and I got my usual Madewell denim size, 26. For height reference, I’m 5’4″.

Lastly, this is just the epitome of #legitmomstyle, isn’t it? Casual, comfortable, chic. I love Sonnet James dresses for their comfort and practicality, and now that I am hooked on the belt bag trend I find that I’m wearing them SO MUCH MORE! I think I always loved how they felt, but they weren’t doing much for me in the shape department. But with a defined waist, BAM, they’re perfect. This is an old one that’s no longer available, but I found a similar black dress option if you want to copy the look. The belt bag is so good I have it in black, too, and I find that it runs a bit big. I got the XS and could’ve probably done the XXS since I wear it right at the smallest part of my waist. The belt and bag can be separated, so it’s super versatile.

Are you into the white sneakers trend? Which look is your favorite?
