10 Rules for Effortless, Everyday Style

In this series, I share some simple tips for leveling up your daily looks.

A leather jacket is a newer item in my wardrobe. It’s a piece I’ve always admired others wearing, but never quite felt like I could take the plunge on myself. The good ones are expensive and definitely an investment item, which meant I wanted to be sure it could be incorporated into my wardrobe before I went for it.

Earlier this year, after considering this one jacket in particular, I decided I was ready to make the purchase and I’m so glad I did! I wore it this spring with dresses (such a great way to add some masculine edge to girly things), and now that it’s fall I want to share 5 ways to style the jacket for cooler weather. Admittedly, these are looks for California fall weather, so if you live in Minnesota, I’m probably not the inspiration for you, haha.

The jacket featured in every outfit is from Nordstrom and the price point is great for a real leather jacket. I recommend sizing up, as it does run small. You can shop it here.

Also, in every look I’m wearing my Sydney Hoop Earrings in Brass Circle, which will be available in the shop soon!

Leather jacket (size up) / Top (TTS) / Jeans (size down) / Boots (TTS or size up 1/2 size)

This is the most classic way to style it for sure! It’s simple and it just works. I especially love the pointed black boots paired with the jacket for this look.

Leather jacket (size up) / Top (TTS or size down) / Jeans (size down) / Mules (TTS or size up 1/2 size)

This has a similar feel to the first look. These black jeans are my favorite right now—they are so comfortable.

Leather jacket (size up) / Dress (TTS, wearing petite length) / Mules

A leather jacket is an easy way to make a dress feel less “sweet” and more grounded. This has a holiday feel to it thanks to the emerald and gold. I think I’m going to have to wear this for a date night soon! I’m wearing my usual size in the dress, and the one I have is the petite length.

Leather jacket (size up) / Dress (TTS) / Boots (TTS or size up 1/2 size)

I’ve worn this wrap dress several times since I got it a few weeks ago, and the number one question I’ve gotten is, how do I style this for cooler weather? Well, friends, here you go! Add a leather jacket and black boots to add edge and warmth. The dress fits TTS, but I think the sizing is pretty flexible since it’s a flowy dress and the only real fitted part of it is where you tie it.

Leather jacket (size up) / Dress (size up) / Tee (TTS) / Boots (TTS or size up 1/2 size)

Okay, this one is BOLD and it’s edgy…and weirdly it’s my favorite one of all!! I ended up wearing this outfit for the entire day after this styling session because it just felt that good. The exact dress I have on is sold out right now (though I still linked it because it’s available in other colors), but I found several similar ones for you!
