10 Rules for Effortless, Everyday Style

In this series, I share some simple tips for leveling up your daily looks.

In all honesty, summer is my least favorite season to dress for. Layering is difficult, comfort is a top priority, and then of course there’s the sweat factor. I always feel especially challenged getting dressed this time of year, and I imagine I’m not totally alone in this! So here are 5 ideas for what to wear if summer weather has already arrived where you live.

In all of these outfits I’m wearing my Emma Hoops in White Wood, which are 1″ diameter. I love wearing these ones when my hair is pulled back!

Dress (c/o, similar colorway linked) / Belt bag / Sandals

Do any of you own a dress from Sonnet James? I first discovered this brand when Jack was a baby (almost 5 years ago!) and they are such a great option for anyone who wants to be comfortable and still look put together. I especially love this dress with a belt bag to shorten it on my shorter frame and create a waistline. The dress is true to size with a roomy fit, and the sandals are also true to size. For the belt bag, I got the XS.

Consider this an upgrade for shorts and a tee. This button-down is a year-round favorite of mine, and just as comfortable as a t-shirt, but it feels more elevated. The top, shorts and mules all fit true to size.

I can’t believe I ever considered not keeping this jumpsuit! It is SO COMFORTABLE, and a great alternative to shorts or a dress when it’s warm outside since the fabric is really light and airy. It runs really big so be sure to size down—I’m wearing the XXS and am normally a XS/S at Madewell in dresses. The belt is actually part of the belt bag shown above—I love that the pouch can be separated from the belt. It makes it so versatile.

White wide leg crops are great for warm weather since they aren’t too tight, and they proportionally work really well with tank tops. They fit pretty true to size (I’m wearing the 2 short), and have a good amount of stretch in them to make them extra comfortable. The tank will certainly be in my summer rotation, and it also fits true to size. Sadly my sunglasses are old, but I’m linking another great tortoise shell option for you.

I love the balance of the edgy band-style tee with a feminine skirt, and it’s a nice change from shorts and a tee. These mules also work as an easy shoe option that is not flip flops or sandals. The tee, skirt and mules are all true to size.

Which look is your favorite? What are your go-to looks for hot weather? Here’s a peek at how all of the outfits came together…
