PLAY WITH PROPORTIONS — Generally speaking (and especially if you’re new to playing around with your personal style), if you wear a loose top, pair it with fitted pants, and vice versa. For the rule-breakers or those looking to have be more experimental: loose + loose is one of my favorite combos in recent years, as you can see here! The key to that looking cool vs sloppy (I find, at least) is little details like the long line the jumpsuit creates as well as how it comes in at the waist, as well as the decision to wear a crossbody bag to add some structure to this otherwise oversized outfit. Also, while the coat is oversized, it is a tailored piece that provides “structure” to the look, even though it’s clearly oversized for my frame.

Remember: looking effortlessly cool isn’t about seeking out what’s the most “flattering” (a word I really hate) — it’s about finding what feels true to YOU and how you want to communicate and express yourself. Feeling uncomfortable in what you’re wearing won’t lead to personal style success.
