Though no doubt some of you will want to know the outfit details for what I’m wearing in this photo (I promise I’ll include them at the end!), today I want to set aside fashion for a moment and get real. I love fashion and style and expressing myself through what I wear, but only because I feel comfortable in my skin and the freedom in my life to be who I want to be. Read More
Kids are messy. Really, really messy. I have some form of peanut butter, hummus or guacamole (three of Jack’s favorites) stuck to my clothes in some way, shape or form every single day. And that’s why I’ve grown to love denim from the depths of my soul.
When Brian and I took our overnight trip to Martha’s Vineyard (sans toddler!), it was hot, hot, hot. Since I’m definitely prone to sweating, I made sure to pack something that would be comfortable and airy as we wandered around town. This top from Madewell has a loose and slightly cropped cut that I think pairs really well with my high rise black pull-on shorts. I finished off the outfit with my minimalist Addison Necklace, walking-friendly lace-up flat sandals and a baseball cap to hide my sweaty hair.
What sweat-hiding outfits do you turn to on hot summer days?
Last week Brian and I took a vacation within a vacation. While visiting my parents in Massachusetts for 4th of July, we snuck away to Martha’s Vineyard for our first baby-free overnight trip. One night, two days and my favorite little island town—it was perfection! We stayed in Edgartown at the Harbor View Hotel and absolutely recommend it. It’s close enough to the shops and restaurants that you can walk everywhere, but separated enough that it feels quiet and quaint. If you follow me on Snapchat (natalie.borton) you definitely got an insider peek into how we spent our hours. In a nutshell, lots of eating, drinking and reading by the pool!
These photos were taken before we went out to dinner at Detente (which I’d also recommend, by the way!). Golden sunshine and salt air made for a dreamy summer evening. This top proved to be the perfect travel shirt, as I wore it all day with little black shorts for a faux romper look to shop and explore, then swapped in my skinnies and new block-heeled sandals for a date-night worthy outfit. Although the exact top I’m wearing sold out really quickly, I’ve linked to several similar options below.
Shorts and a tank top—does it get any more summery than that? We shot these photos over the weekend while we were playing at the local botanical gardens with Jack. He loves that place so much! And we feel the same about it—lush greenery, wide open spaces, so many nooks and crannies to explore. It’s the dreamiest. And pretty much a perfect way to kill time until your toddler naps.
These shorts have quickly become an easy item to throw on when I’m in a rush and need to get dressed quickly (aka most days). And this striped trapeze tank is a perfect match for the shorts and really ideal on warmer days, as it doesn’t cling too close to the body. I finished off the look with some of my favorite accessories as of late: my new Marisa Necklace, aviators, hair extensions (for a long braid that stays in place), simple sandals, and a giant tote to carry everything I “need.”
The shorts, tank and earrings are all on sale, so if you’ve been thinking about them now is the time!
