I’ve always wanted to join in on the 10×10 challenges Caroline and Lee host each season but never seem to get my act together in time to make it happen. This season, however, I’m down to very few clothes that I both love and actually fit in, so I decided it was a great time to give it a go!
How does it work? Pick 10 items of clothing from your closet—tops, bottoms, dresses and shoes for your everyday life (but don’t include accessories, bags, PJs, or gym clothes—just let those flow freely as needed). Then, for 10 days, create a new outfit each day using the 10 items you picked. Basically, it’s a chance to test out a capsule wardrobe without a big commitment.
Based on the weather report, we’ll have a mix of warm and cool days, with the mornings and evenings being much cooler than midday. These are the (hopefully versatile) 10 items I chose for the next 10 days:
- Boob Speakeasy Dress (c/o)
- HATCH Collection Taylor Jumper (similar here)
- HATCH Collection Longsleeve Tee
- Madewell maternity jeans
- VETTA Capsule Oversized Sweater
- Boob Jackie Dress (c/o)
- Black swing dress (similar and similar)
- DV slide sandals
- Merona mule loafers
- Calf hair ankle boots (similar)
I admittedly made all my selections, photographed them on this stand for the post, and then realized I would really regret not having a sleeveless dress in the mix for a potentially really toasty day. Thus, the striped top got cut and the black swing dress got added into the mix. I also have a pair of calf hair loafers on standby in case I want the look of the ankle boots without the need to have a heel. I figure there’s no reason to be rigid on rules and make myself uncomfortable, right?
I tried to pick things that could really mix and match and that most importantly would be comfortable to wear while being a mama and also working in my office/running errands next week. All together, this mix has a very fall feel, but I think it’s going to work with the higher fall temperatures we have thanks to lightweight fabrics. The colors and silhouettes are really where that fall feeling comes from—and of course I can’t forget that accessories play a major role in making the exact same outfit look totally different. I’m excited to see what I come up with!
Admittedly, I’m snapping the outfit photos I’ll be sharing in this series in advance, though they are all outfits I legitimately am wearing throughout the challenge—I promise! (Well, except when I’m in my pajamas for 80% of the day, haha). Juggling taking care of a 3-year-old, running a business and doing final preparations for baby girl, some ahead-of-time photography definitely makes life a lot less chaotic.
Are any of you joining in on the challenge this season?! Leave a comment and let me know! Follow along with all of my 10×10 outfits here.
P.S. The bamboo garment rack is from Amazon—I’ve wanted it for years after seeing Caroline use hers season after season and finally just ordered it. I can’t believe I waited so long!!
